Cenchrus echinatus, common names southern sandspur, southern sandbur, Mossman River Grass is a member of the Poaceae or grass family.[1][1] It is native to north and south America.
It is an annual to 80 cm high which forms clumps. Its leaves occur with or without hairs, to 12 mm wide. The ligule is a fringe of hairs. The grass has barbed burrs 4–10 mm long.
In Australia it forms an invasive weed in coastal situations.[2]
